The time zones we live by and try and keep track of are based on the 24 hours in a day.
A day is based on the 24 hours it takes for the Earth to rotate on its axis.
The month is based on the time it takes for the moon to go through the cycle of phases as it rotates around the earth.
A year is the based on the time it takes for the Earth to rotate around the sun.
So what is the week based on?
